BRAINCHILD PAVILIONS

Brainchild Festival is a three day festival celebrating creativity and DIY spirit at a peer-to-peer level. Brainchild was started by a group of friends in their first year of university as a not-for-profit celebration, aiming to stitch together collectives, communities and creative projects.

In July 2015, the Dome pavilion was crafted from wood sourced locally on site, with the assistance of Akil Scafe-Smith. Forming a relaxed space between campsite and venues, it served as a place for impromptu acoustic performances and candlelit gatherings.

In July 2013, Abigail Portus and Roma Swords McDonnell designed and built a pavilion for Brainchild Festival in Canterbury. The Hive was designed as a hexagonal structure, raising an awareness of the declining bee populations and creating a meeting space on the boundary between campsite and stages. The piece was created sustainably and cheaply using wooden pallets which were then recycled after the festival. It framed views of the sunset and surrounding festival whilst providing seating space for people to lounge in throughout the weekend.
