THE SHACK

At Brainchild Festival 2016 we created the Shack, the primary electronic stage for the festival, located in a woodland area of the site.

The translucent structure enclosed the Brainchild DJs, glowing as it came alive at night. Featuring a hot pink skeletal frame, it supported a lightweight polycarbonate hood, stage deck and lighting. Nestled amongst the Brainchild forest trees, it was a beacon for dance. Through its architectural form, it projected music and light into the clearing, with an arched shell roof that angled itself towards the dance floor.

Draw

The Shack began with an idea between three, to create a stage focused on the projection of sound into the dance space in front. We wanted to use the structural form to direct the sound right where you wanted it…

Develop

Being in a forest setting of the Brainchild site, with the noise constraints from nearby rural communities, we wanted to keep as much of the music as possible within this clearing…

Build

Months of drawing, modelling, planning and four days of on-site construction later.. The final result was a translucent structural carapace, enclosing DJ, speakers and equipment in a waterproof nest which directed the sound exactly where we wanted it…
